ടിപ്പു സുൽത്താൻ്റെ മരണവാർത്ത ലണ്ടനിലെ പത്രത്തിൽ വന്നപ്പോൾ. മരണം നടന്ന് നാലുമാസത്തിനു ശേഷമാണ് വാർത്ത ലണ്ടനിൽ എത്തിയത്.

DEATH of TIPPOO SAIB;

And the Capture of Seringapatam,

the Capital of his Empire.

This morning arrived at the India House from Plymouth, the Purser of the Barwell East-Indiaman; by which ship we have the important intelligence, that on the 4th of May the British Forces under General Stuart took SERINGAPATAM, Tippoo’s Capital, by assault, with a very trifling loss on the part of the British troops.

The body of Tippoo was found among the slain upon the ramparts of the place, and his two sons were taken in his Palace.

By the death of this restless Tyrant, and the overthrow of his Empire, the lawful King of Mysore will be restored to his Throne, the English power in India effectually secured, and the hopes of the French in that quarter completely destroyed.

Private Letters mention that immense treasure has been taken in Seringapatam.

Immediately upon receiving this pleasing intelligence preparations were made for a splendid illumination of the India House; and the Park and Tower guns were fired on the occasion.

ഇന്ന് രാവിലെ പ്ലൈമുത്തിൽ നിന്ന് ഇന്ത്യ ഹൗസിൽ എത്തിയ Barwell East-Indiaman കപ്പലിലെ ഉദ്യോഗസ്ഥൻ വഴി പ്രധാന വിവരങ്ങൾ ലഭിച്ചു. മേയ് 4-ന് ജനറൽ സ്റ്റുവർട്ടിന്റെ നേതൃത്വത്തിലുള്ള ബ്രിട്ടീഷ് സേന, ടിപ്പുവിന്റെ തലസ്ഥാനമായ ശ്രീരംഗപട്ടണം ആക്രമണത്തിലൂടെ കീഴടക്കി. ബ്രിട്ടീഷ് സൈന്യത്തിന് വളരെ കുറഞ്ഞ നഷ്ടമാത്രമാണ് ഉണ്ടായത്.

ടിപ്പുവിന്റെ മൃതദേഹം കോട്ടമതിലുകളുടെ സമീപത്ത് കൊല്ലപ്പെട്ടവരുടെ ഇടയിൽ കണ്ടെത്തി. അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ രണ്ട് പുത്രന്മാരെ രാജധാനിയിൽ നിന്ന് പിടികൂടി.

ഈ “അശാന്തനായ അധിനായകൻ” മരിച്ചതും അവന്റെ സാമ്രാജ്യം തകർന്നതും മൂലം മൈസൂരിന്റെ നിയമാനുസൃത രാജാവിനെ വീണ്ടും സിംഹാസനത്തിലേക്ക് തിരിച്ചുകൊണ്ടുവരും. ഇന്ത്യയിൽ ഇംഗ്ലീഷ് ശക്തി ഉറപ്പിക്കപ്പെടുകയും ഫ്രഞ്ചുകാരുടെ പ്രതീക്ഷകൾ പൂര്‍ണമായും തകർന്നുപോകുകയും ചെയ്യും.

സ്വകാര്യ കത്തുകൾ പ്രകാരം ശ്രീരംഗപട്ടണത്തിൽ നിന്നും വമ്പിച്ച ധനസമ്പത്ത് പിടിച്ചെടുത്തതായി പറയുന്നു.

ഈ സന്തോഷകരമായ വാർത്ത ലഭിച്ചതോടെ ഇന്ത്യ ഹൗസിൽ വലിയ ആഘോഷങ്ങൾ നടത്താൻ തയ്യാറെടുപ്പുകൾ നടത്തി; പാർക്കും ടവറിലുമുള്ള തോക്കുകൾ പൊട്ടിച്ചും ആഘോഷിച്ചു.
